10th April 2014. We continue to expand our agri-weather data sets and forecasts. We have added packs covering the Ukraine Soybean area, Iran Spring and Winter Wheat, cotton in Burkina Faso and Benin, Rabi Rice in India and spring wheat in Morocco amongst others.
9th April 2014. We now offer 15 packs covering hydro catchment areas in China, Australia and Europe. These packs provide cleaned histories, cleaned feeds and ECMWF-based probabilistic ensemble forecasts
8th April 2014. Our list of available high-quality downscaled ensemble forecasts based on the ECMWF model continues to grow. We now offer over 2,000. We only produce forecasts where we also have high-quality ground truth.
3th April 2014. We have added population-weighted data sets and forecasts for Argentina and Chile. These include a weighted basket of historical data and ensemble forecasts based on both the ECMWF and GFS models.
20th February 2014. We are pleased to announce the release of SWS Version 9. The Speedwell Weather System is the dominant software for pricing weather risk and managing a portfolio of weather risk contracts. 30th January 2014. Speedwell Weather has released SettleCast®, a new forecast product designed for weather risk contracts which settle on forecast values rather than observed values. We see this as an important extension of the weather risk markets in which we have been involved as data provider and settlement agent for over a decade. SettleCast forecasts are tailored to the needs of the specific energy market convention they serve and is currently available for over 80 European sites (here) based on the standard European gas-day convention. 29th January 2014. Speedwell Weather is acting as settlement agent for what is believed to be the biggest weather risk transfer transaction to date brought by World Bank on behalf of the Uruguay state-run utility company, UTE, and based on rainfall in Uruguay/Brazil. Our involvement has included data sourcing, data quality control and the installation of weather stations. 25th October 2013 We have expanded our range of population-weighted data-sets and forecasts. We call these FlexIndexes. These are used for modelling energy demand. The product includes an ensemble forecast based on the individual down-scaled forecasts of the component sites, the historical data set, smoothed climatology and data feeds. 9th October 2013 We are pleased to release the first of our European Gas-Day Forecasts sites. For these sites we provide a down-scaled ensemble forecast based on the average of hourly temperatures for the 0600 to 0500 time period, matching the trading convention of many gas markets in Europe. This product is based on the 15-day ECMWF forecast model. See here for the sites available. Please contact us for verification statistics.
2nd October 2013 Agri-Pack update: we now provide over 150 packs covering regional crop growing areas. These provide daily temperature and rainfall histories for the basket of sites as well as feeds and forecasts. click here to see the available baskets.

28th June 2013 Flex Indexes: Population Weighted histories and forecasts: We have satisfied a number of requests recently for bespoke weighted basket forecasts. We call these Flex-Indexes. A Flex Index comprises a cleaned history, smoothed climatologies, cleaned feeds and associated downscaled ensemble forecasts based on 15-day ECMWF & GFS and the monthly ECMWF. A Flex can be created with any number of sites with any weights on request. These tend to be used for longer-term power trading. Currently available Flex Indexes can be seen here.
25th June 2013 Ensemble Forecasts Baskets for Agri: We have produced a range of basket forecasts for Agri areas focusing on particular crops in each growing region. The forecasts are based on ECMWF and/or GFS 15 day and ECMWF monthly models. Each index comes with cleaned history, feeds and climatology. Current Agri indexes can be seen here
20th June 2013 Cleaned Data Update: We are delighted to report that we now quality control over 5,000 sites per day and are able to provide cleaned temperature or rainfall histories for over 5,000 sites world-wide.

5th July 2012 We have released our new map tool. This shows over 10,000 of our standard data sets which are available to SuperPack® and SuperPack Light customers. The new tool now allows for searches (eg "find all sites with 100% complete TMax over 20 years") and provides convenient access to tools. Please click here to view.

We have released a new product which provides a vast amount of historical and real-time weather data of high quality for clients who have a large appetite for international data but do not need the full-service provided under SuperPack®. The new product is called SuperPack-Light. SuperPack-Light provides access to 1,500 user-specified data sets chosen from over 10,000 which include over 3,000 cleaned data sets and over 2,000 cleaned feeds as well as many thousands of official climate data sets. We are pleased to be winning more and more clients who require weather data for crop-modelling. Extended Recalibrated Data Sets: Many sites in the USA shows significant temperature discontinuities over their history. Our Recalibrated Data Sets adjust for these by producing a data set consistent with current observation conditions/location and instruments. After a number of years of providing these for CME weather derivative reference sites, we will soon be releasing a pack of over 200. Subscribers will receive the adjusted time series of TMin and TMax and have access to monitors alerting to any current changes in site behaviour.

We have had a lot of requests recently for snow data in the USA and Europe and for solar radiation data in Europe. We have cleaned dozens of snowfall data sets for many of our SuperPack clients (for no extra charge..all part of the service). Solar radiation data can be tough to find in Europe. We can provide HOURLY solar radiation data for sites in the UK, Netherlands and Germany.
3rd November 2011 UK: We have moved into our new office premises in Harpenden. Our address is the same but we now occupy a complete floor of the building. The new office provides us with a more pleasant and more efficient working space and the room we need to continue growing.

Recalibrated data sets: We have just issued the latest 6-monthly updates to data packs for key US sites to reflect recent changes at the 24 US CME sites. We have identified significant discontinuities in two stations one of which is more than 2 degrees F.
The data team have had a busy quarter fielding an unusually wide range of client requests for weather data and feeds. SuperPack (our open subscription to ALL our data) continues to grow as a result: expansion of our cleaned US snowfall sets; addition of more hourly wind data for UK; expansion of our Swiss data sets; expansion of UK snowfall data sets, Brazilian hourly, Danish hourly, Thai daily, Korean solar radiation and the addition of another US non-government US network. SuperPack provides access to data not already in our archives on a reasonable-request basis. More often than not, we find it!

- SuperPack Update: We have added two more private networks in the USA: FAWN and CoAg. These extend our coverage for sites in Florida and Colorado and in particular provide solar radiation data not available through the NCDC network.

- SWSConnect: we are seeing more users on SWSConnect which is our web-delivered version of SWS.. and so we are responding to requests to add functionality that has always been available on the full version of SWS. With the latest release users can now select El Nino or La Nina years for pricing (logon required).

- Recalibrated Data: there seems to be a lot going on with US CME sites in the update this month. For users unfamiliar with the product, these data sets adjust key US and European sites for historic site moves and instrument discontinuities. The difference over a 50 year period can be VERY significant with the biggest magnitude difference being >2.5F on TMin and > 1.6 on TMax DAILY
